Skills Course: Rock Skills Intermediate - Mountain Training Accredited

 

Course Description: This is a nationally accredited course designed for those who have climbed indoors but want to develop the skills and experience to transition into outdoor climbing. The course will focus on developing the skills to be an effective 'second' whilst also introducing the techniques to progress into leading climbing.

 

What you can expect:

  • To experience a variety of different climbing equipment and its use in different situations

  • To practise placing a variety of protection including nuts, cams, hexes and slings

  • To learn ways to link protection with a view to building a top rope anchor

  • Learn associated skills with being a climbing second including; safely belaying a lead climber, removing protection whilst climbing, effective climber / belayer communication

 

Who is it for / Pre-requisites: 

This course is for those who enjoy indoor climbing but would like to learn the ropes outdoors.

Although not a requirement, if you have no prior climbing experience, we would recommend the Introduction to Climbing experience first.

    • Rope protector

    • Metalware – caribinas, nuts etc

    • Chalk

​*Please feel free to bring along your own kit to use.

 

Location and Travel Arrangements: 

The course will meet at the Pool Cafe in Hathersage, S32 1DU (unless advised otherwise during booking). The group will then travel to a local crag for the remainder of the day. Clients will be expected to provide their own transport unless alternative arrangements are made in advance. Where possible we can collect clients from Bamford train station.

By Car: Please follow postcode S32 1BB, which will bring you to Hathersage in Derbyshire.

By Train: Travel to Bamford Station in Derbyshire.

Local facilities: At the beginning of the day you will have access to food, drink and toilet facilities at the café. When we arrive at the crag there will be NO FACILITIES available.

What you should bring

    • Suitable non-restrictive clothing including warm layers, wind/waterproof jacket

    • Hat and gloves (optional)

    • Suitable footwear with ankle support for the walk-in

    • Parking fee (if required) 

    • Hair ties for anyone with long hair

    • Food and drink
