Experience Day: Canoeing Improver (moving water)

 

Course Description: This activity involves using previously learnt paddling skills and applying them on moving water. There will be short sections of rapids that are ideal for those new to moving water. Although it is not essential to have prior experience, we would recommend it to make your experience more worthwhile. If you are a complete novice , you can learn essential skills in the morning on our beginner course, and move onto the river trip in the afternoon.

What you can expect:

• To recap basic paddle skills to propel your canoe

• To develop paddle skills for use on moving water

• To learn basic safety communication for use on moving water

• To learn how to use the land and water flow to your advantage

• To develop awareness of potential hazards

 

Who is it for / Pre-requisites: Although it is not absolutely necessary, we highly recommend you attend the beginner flat water experience beforehand or have prior canoeing experience.

Location and Travel Arrangements: 

Please meet in the car park at the Square and Compass Pub, situated along the B5057 between Winster and Darley Dale. Clients will be expected to provide their own transport unless alternative arrangements are made in advance. Where possible we can collect clients from Matlock train station.

• PLEASE NOTE - As this is a one way trip on the water, you may be asked to do a short shuttle run to get drivers back to the start location to collect cars.

 

By Car:Please follow postcode S33 0BJ, which will bring you to the Snakes Pass Inn on the A57, approximately half way between Bamford and Glossop.

By Train: Travel to Matlock Station in Derbyshire.

 

Local facilities: At the beginning of the day there may be access to food and drink if the pub is open. We kindly request you do purchase something from the pub if you wish to use their toilets. Otherwise there are no toilets in close proximity to the start location. 

 

Accommodation: We do not provide accommodation but can recommend but can recommend local accomodation uppon request.
