Activity: Beginner Experience

Duration: 10am to 1pm or 1.30pm to 4.30pm

Experience Day: Canoeing Beginner Experience (flat water)

 

Course Description: This activity involves learning the basics paddle skills in a canoe. You can either be paired up in a single boat or rafted together to make a stable group boat. This experience will take place on flat water, to give you the best opportunity to focus on improving your paddle skills.

 

Cost: £45 Half Day

You can upgrade to a full day by choosing another half day activity, or progress to the Canoe river trip in the afternoon.

 

What you can expect:

  • To learn basic paddle skills to propel your canoe

  • To learn basic paddle skills to turn your canoe

  • To work as a team to effectively navigate a course

  • To learn the effects of trim and edge on your board To put you outside your comfort zone

  • To learn techniques to avoid capsize and perform basic rescues.

 

Who is it for / Pre-requisites: This course is for anyone who enjoys being out on the water, with an interest in canoeing. The activities set by your instructor can sway the likelihood of you getting wet or remaining dry, although we cannot guarantee it.  Suitable for all ages and abilities.

Location and Travel Arrangements: 

Please meet in the car park at Combs Sailing Club. Activities will be based at this location. Clients will be expected to provide their own transport unless alternative arrangements are made in advance. Where possible we can collect clients from Chapel En-Le Frith train station.

 

By Car: Please follow postcode SK23 9UH. This will bring you to the car park at Combs Sailing Club, which is at the side of the B5470 (Manchester Road) between Whaley Bridge and Chapel En Le Frith.

By Train: Travel to Chapel En-Le Frith Station in Derbyshire.

 

Local facilities: ou will have access to toilets and changing facilities throughout the day. There are NO facilities to purchase food or drinks so please bring your own. 

 

Accommodation: We do not provide accommodation but can recommend the following.....

    • Goyt Valley Camping

    • Chapel Campsite

There are also numerous Air B and B's and Holiday Cottages close to Chapel-En-Le-Frith and Whaley Bridge.

What you should bring

  • Clothes to get wet

  • Footwear to get wet (not wellies / walking boots)
